New York Family Mediation provides divorce and family mediation services throughout New York State. We offer a better, more cost-effective way for spouses to work through the process of dividing their assets, resolving child custody issues, and negotiating child and spousal support obligations as they go through a divorce. As explained in more detail on the “Why Mediate?” page on our website, there are countless reasons why mediating a divorce is a better approach than going to court. Not does mediation allow you to make your own decisions about your and your family’s future—instead of putting them in the hands of a judge who does not know your family situation nearly as well as you do—mediation is more cost-effective than litigation and it usually leads to less long-term strife and returns to court.
Our mediation process was developed from our experience in handling hundreds of divorce, custody, and child support cases in court. Clients input their financial information into our secure system so that both parties and the mediator have access to all of the data needed to negotiate a settlement of the financial issues in the parties’ divorce. The mediator will guide the parties through negotiating a settlement on each of these issues, and when the mediation is complete, the mediator will provide the parties with a separation and property settlement agreement that they can sign and submit to court to obtain a judgment of divorce.
My career as an attorney began in New York City, where I practiced law at Fried, Frank, Harris, Shriver & Jacobson LLP, and then at Friedman Kaplan Seiler & Adelman LLP. While at these firms, I represented businesses and individual clients in a variety of civil litigation matters, including breach of contract, employment, civil rights, real estate, software licensing, civil fraud, antitrust, negligence, and professional malpractice lawsuits.
I founded Wellner and Associates PLLC in 2012, with offices in Hudson, New York and New York City. Since then, I have represented hundreds of clients in divorces, family court cases, and in real estate and business lawsuits. Those cases have included many financially complex divorces and business disputes. My current law practice is through Hudson Berkshire Property & Family Law PLLC, a new firm that I founded in 2022 that is located in Rhinebeck, New York and that serves clients in Dutchess, Ulster, Columbia, Greene, Orange, and Rensselaer counties.
In 2025, I founded New York Family Mediation LLC after almost twenty years of practicing law and understanding the positives and the pitfalls of resolving disputes in court. I firmly believe that if both parties to a dispute are willing to engage in mediation in good faith, they will always enjoy a better outcome, and ususally at a substantially lower cost. From my experience as a divorce attorney, I have a strong understanding of the law that governs divorces in New York and of the issues that spouses must address as part of their divorce.
I received a Bachelor of Science degree in Agricultural, Resource, and Managerial Economics from Cornell University in 1996, a Master's in Business Administration from the University of Phoenix in 2004, and a Juris Doctor, magna cum laude, from the Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Law in 2006. While in law school, I was the Editor in Chief of the Cardozo Law Review, and I received the school's Felix Frankfurter Award for outstanding academic achievement.
